17-year-old violinist Emma Hart and her dad Dave Hart have been performing together since Emma was four. At her first Suzuki recital they perfomed "Boil'em Cabbage Down," which was the first of many times an audience member was heard to utter, "Well, how is someone supposed to follow that?"
Since then Emma has continued to wow audiences with her fleet fingers and soulful expression beyond her years. When Emma was 11, she and Dave had the honor of playing for bluegrass legend Tim O'Brien, and Tim declared to those around him, "She's one of us!" In 2006, Emma won the Trick and Fancy division of the Connecticut Audubon Society Annual Fiddle Competition. After Dave and Emma warmed up for iconic folk singer Bill Staines, Bill took the stage and joked to the dazzled audience, "I'm just Emma's closing act". Emma's musical tastes include bluegrass, jazz, Celtic and serious classical stuff. In a recent interview she said, "As a musician I feel like it would be wrong at this age to pick a style. My classical lessons just seem to improve my bluegrass, so I look at all these niches I explore as making me a better musician."
Emma is also currently attending Manhattan School Of Music Pre College as a Jazz Violin major, where she studies with jazz violin great Sara Caswell. In the fall of 2010, Emma was featured in Stamford Magazine as one of

"10 Teens To Watch".
This summer she was awarded the Berklee/Mark O'Connor Scholarship for 2012, receiving the award at the Greyfox Bluegrass Festival where she performed on the main stage with Joe Walsh (Gibson Brothers), Dave Hollander (Berklee faculty), and other scholarship alumni. In addition to her musical accomplishments, Emma's academic honors include a National Merit Scholarship Commendation and an AP Scholar recognition.Stay tuned as Emma and Dave are hard at work on an album to be released soon, which will include original tunes as well as some of their favorites.
